Only recently we were asked to quote for a large company who are unhappy with the level of proactive advice being received from their existing accountant, and who we knew were approaching three other accountants (including ourselves) to obtain quotes.
By searching their websites we were able to discover that in fact the company had two other connected companies, and that taking them all into account they would be our largest client if our quote was converted, and would also provide our largest fees.
When we arrived at the meeting to discuss a quotation, sell ourselves and to generally find out about their business we were delighted when at an early stage they mentioned they had also been on the internet to review our website to decide whether a meeting would be of any use, and were very impressed indeed with our website, and in particular the content that gave a great indication as to how proactive we would be with any client.
Research shows that the first few minutes of any 'selling meeting' are vital. We believe that our website acted as an ambassador and paved the way for a far easier selling meeting than would otherwise have been the case. Whilst I would like to think that the way we presented ourselves also helped, there is no doubt at all that our website, and in particular the fact that it appeared so different from many other accountants' websites made a great difference in converting this client.
The client has now signed up for all three companies, and the additional good news is that they are already signing up for substantial added value work as advertised on our website.
As a general finer point I would also like to add that we have always found your company to be extremely efficient in making amendments to the website, and being proactive yourselves in ensuring that our website is up to date and crammed full of tools as is possible for a small sole trader accountancy practice.
